What Do We Mean
By “Quest”?
While we agree with what the reformers started- we wish that had followed it out to its logical conclusion. So we restorationists would agree in certain principles about what the reformers intended. Among these is the principle of semper reformata or always reforming. The greatest danger to making progress is the pridefully mistaken idea of “we’ve arrived”, that is, short of heaven itself. In our fallen mortal frame we are all prone to error- and by far the greatest error is to deceive oneself into thinking that all error has been set straight. “We like sheep have ALL gone astray” Isaiah 53:5
There are those that believe that they have restored the first century church- and I concede the point- but the problem is that they restored much that should have been left in the first century. In contrast to this, we seek to restore the IDEALS of the first century church, knowing full well that we will all make mistakes. God is not as concerned with us making mistakes as He is with our taking responsibility for our errors and correcting them. God wants for us to learn from our slip ups.
Our goal is to seek to live out the good confession that “Jesus is Lord!” as demonstrated in how we conduct our lives- which includes confessing our mistakes when we go astray. When Christ returns He will set everything straight – until then we will do as best we can with the power His grace gives us.
